Friends,
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Assessor of Property for the past seven years. It has been a challenging, yet very rewarding opportunity and I am grateful that you entrusted your support.
The Sumner county real estate market is in unchartered territory with challenges emerging on a daily basis. As the valuation authority we are tasked with meeting the needs of the property owners with a fair and equitable valuation within the parameters established by the General Assembly. As your Assessor I continue to address the challenges by working extensively with the General Assembly to ensure taxpayer-friendly legislation is presented. Through my role as President of the Tennessee Association of Assessing Officials, I have vigorously defended the taxpayer’s right to public notice of any property tax increase. We promoted and implemented a successful flood proration program to assist the victims of the flood. We continue to work with the General Assembly to ensure fair and equitable valuations for all property owners.
Technology was another cornerstone of my campaign when I first asked for your support in 2003. I am extremely proud of our GIS program. Our public site continues to receive visits from across the United States and serves as an invaluable source of information for the economical and community development. Our Enterprise system has created a partnership with cities, government agencies, and private entities to reduce redundancy and increase accuracy in the exchange of information while creating cost savings for the taxpayer through the process. In 2007 the program was recognized by our peers as one of the top 150 sites in the world for innovation, implementation and involvement. We are proud of this honor for Sumner County and continue to be the driving force for innovation in the GIS community.
Integrity in the office was another cornerstone of my campaign. As County Commissioner, I was an advocate transparency in government and its officials. Upon taking office I created a series of monthly reports for the County Commission to empower them with accurate information for their decision processes. It is a practice I have continued throughout my tenure as Assessor. Understanding the process of valuation is critical to effectively steward the resources of taxpayers.
The final cornerstone of my initial campaign was responsibility to the economic development communities. The Assessor’s office has been proactive in developing award winning tools for the economic community. We work closely with Forward Sumner and other entities, as requested, to provide data to influence investment in Sumner County.
I share these accomplishments not to be boasting or from pride; yet to show that we are working hard to best serve the citizens of Sumner County.
With that, I humbly as for your support to continue the work we have started. It has been my honor to serve as your Assessor of Property since 2004 and I need your help once again. As we start our re-election campaign, I must reach out to my friends. Thank you and I look forward to sharing more information as the campaign gears up.
